LPS Berbakti Sosial Di Bantar Gebang

To commemorate its 2nd Anniversary, the Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation (IDIC) embarked on a Corporate Social Responsibility campaign to reach out and alleviate the plight of the poor inhabitants of TPA Bantar Gebang Sector V Ciketing Udik Village, Bekasi on the 8th September 2007.  that reside adjacent to an immense garbage disposal and recycling area.  IDIC donated free medical care and medicines, food packets, and school supplies for the inhabitants of the area who are largely poor scavengers.

The event commenced at 9.00 Western Indonesia Standard Time which began with a speech from the Coordinator of IDIC’s CSR program, Suharno Eliandy, the Community or Village Head, and the Head of the Dinamika Foundation, a non-profit organization that seeks to provide assistance to the inhabitants of the area.  The event was subsequently followed by a free medical care program for the inhabitants of the area that reside close to areas with low environmental health standards.

The free medical care were provided by 4 volunteer doctors who were supported by 2 medical staff and a pharmacist. An estimated 255 people registered for the free medical program which consists of children, adults, and senior citizens. At the same time, IDIC donated an estimated 275 food packets and school supplies for 255 children of the local primary and elementary school who were accompanied by their respective parents. Sadly, these same schools, which were built and operated through funds donated overseas, were situated in the midst of the heaps of garbage that is the main feature of the community.

The event was both a fruitful and valuable experience and was officially closed at 13.00 Western Indonesia Standard Time.
